FRIDAY, AUGUST 7

This is our final work day, therefore, final edition of the blog. As I was finishing the blog last night this mosquito kept trying to suck my blood, but Peter and Mary Rae were both singing gospel songs.  The week seemed to go by so fast. It was foggy this morning on our way to our worksite. Today Teams Peter and Bob G returned to the Foster house. We were anxious to finish the ramp because our work had been interrupted by rain yesterday and our half day on Wednesday. Despite a small shower during lunch, we were able to get the ramp finished at 4 PM! The big pile of mud and debris was finally taken away and grass seed planted. Tim and Noah and Buck were all very sweaty by the time the trailer was full of dirt.  When we were done, the homeowner came out and was very pleased and shook all of our hands, saying "Thank you very much!" 

My cabin mate, Dave, told me what Team Jeff B did today. He installed hurricane clips on the roof of a different house. They had to seal the roof with some sort of sticky tape before shingles could be put on. Some of the rain came in through the roof, causing the floors to be wet. Aaron had to squeegee the floors. They had to return to the first house they had been working on earlier in the week to redo some pieces of siding. There was a third house that needed a door frame modified because the contractor Habitat hired did not install it correctly. Sorry, I don't know what the ladies did...

Each of us wore our new Habitat T-shirts to go out to dinner at Stoneridge Tavern. We enjoyed large portions of food; some of us could not finish what was on our plates. But the rolls were delicious--reminded Lorene of Texas Roadhouse rolls, even with cinnamon butter! Speaking of Lorene, she offered a toast to celebrate everyone and the great job they did on this trip--God is good! We cheerfully clanked our glasses!

Returning to camp, we had a short discussion about our breakfast stop on the way home, and a short devotion led by Peter. Departure time tomorrow will be 7 AM--bright and early! Can't wait to get home, be with family again, and sleep in!

 Old Union Mission Trip 2026 -- Hendersonville, NC SUNDAY, AUG. 2 We left Old Union Church around 11:30 AM after indoor worship due to threatening weather. However, on our trip, we only encountered occasional rain in TN, VA and upon entering NC. Traffic was better than last year with fewer construction zones in WV. For the third year in a row, we saw a rainbow, after the rain heavy rain in TN, between our stop at the truck stop and Bristol.  God was with us! When we arrived at Lutheridge around 9 PM, it was dark and we had to search for our cabins. Luckily, Mary Rae was already there to guide us.  Mission Trip 2026, Hendersonville TUESDAY, AUG. 4 We woke up to yet another foggy morning, but that's normal for mountainous regions during humid summertime. Before leaving, we form a prayer circle. Today, Aaron prayed (his first time in a group) and demonstrated great emotional and spiritual maturity, according to Pastor Peter. Amen! First thing, the whole group met Alex at the HOH headquarters. Then we split up to our respective work sites.  Team Bob G and Team Peter worked together at Marilyn's house to, hopefully, finish the ramp. We had two HfH volunteers, plus Alex and Noah helping us today. It was a very busy worksite. The first half of the ramp and back deck were successfully connected to make one long ramp. We worked very hard to get as much done before the hot sun bared down on us.  THURSDAY, AUG. 6 We awoke to partly sunny skies (I thought "wow, that's new") , so we knew we would have a nice sunny day to work. Sure enough, by 8 AM the sun shone brightly. By now we're accustomed to the morning routine leaving at 7:30 AM. Cassie led the morning prayer before we all left to our respective worksites. My group returned to the Foster house along with Team Peter (Peter, Lorene, and Geoff). What did we find when we first arrived?? Chester! He came to greet us briefly, and I got to pet him just like old times, and then he walked away. We never saw him again during the day. Also, because of all of the rain since Monday, our post holes that we meticulously dug were filled with water! Alex and Noah were with us again, and Buck arrived later. We had to use a sump pump to quickly drain the holes. Then Bob G, Carl, Peter and Lorene mixed cement to fill 5 holes.
